Found-object reports

If theft or loss as a result of persecution cannot be definitively ruled out, objects are reported on the Lost Art Internet platform. Information currently available on paintings can be accessed by the general public so that possible owners can submit claims. At the moment 236 works of art can be seen on the ‘Lost Art’ site. As such, the Bavarian State Painting Collections are striving to fulfil their duty by analysing their holdings according to the guidelines laid out in the Common Statement and the Washington Principles (Washington Conference Principles on Nazi-Confiscated Art). This number is increasing constantly and shows the Bavarian State Painting Collections’ firm will to examine its holdings and register cases of looted art.

Meanwhile research on the artworks is ongoing. Provenance researchers are attempting to close any existing gaps through the use of new sources to provide complete provenances for the paintings and sculptures.
